His synonymy citation (“Betula - 3d - described tree in Piper & Beattie, Fl. Palouse Reg. 55 (1901). B. Piperi Britton in Bull. Torr. Bot. Cl. Xxxi. 165 (1904), as to description, not as to single collection cited. B. fontinalis var. Piperi (Britton) Sargent in Journ. Arn.
