Remarks
B. L. Robinson, in his usage of Brickellia betonicifolia A.Gray var. humilis A. Gray (in Smithsonian Contr. Knowl. 5(6): 72. 1853), a sphalm., inadvertently validated the varietal name. A. Gray (1853) used humilis as a descriptive term (not as an epithet); in Gray's work, all the accepted names and epithets are in Roman caps.
