Remarks

The basionym epithet ruelloides is derived from the generic name Ruellia and the suffix -oides, and Pennell corrected the epithet to “ruellioides”. Since ruelloides is a compound epithet derived from a noun and a suffix, no correction is needed to the basionym epithet (see ICN Art. 60 Ex. 23). For the basionym, Pennell referred to Gratiola ruellioides Koenig ; Vahl, Enum. Plant. 1: 99. 1804. Vahl in turn referred to Colsm. grat. 12.. Therefore, Pennell's refernce to Vahl is treated as an an indirect reference to: G. ruelloides Colsm.
