Remarks
Botanical works have been treating the gender of the genus name Trema as either neuter or feminine. Nicolson (Taxon 43: 104. 1994) treated Trema as neuter, and his conclusion is followed here. In the name of the type species T. cannabina Lour., the epithet cannabina can be a noun in apposition (cf., Cannabina Mill. 1754)
