Schreb. (pp. 147-148, no. 1166) proposed CHAMAENERION (EPILOBIUM) (obscurum) as a new species, but on p. 155 (index), he listed only EPILOBIUM obscurum with a reference to the species no. 1166. Since Schreb. did not list C. obscurum in the index, it is explicit that he did not propose C. obscurum and E. obscurum as alternative names, that he rejected C. obscurum, and that he accepted E. obscurum.
