Rydberg (1903) published: “Pachylophus exiguus (A. Gray) Rydb. nom. nov. Oenothera exigna A. Gray, PI. Fendl. 1849” (sic). Rydberg's citation of the epithets exiguus and exigua is a typographical error for eximius and eximia (see Rydberg, Fl. Rocky Mts., 598. 1917)
