Remarks

M. Jacobs inadvertently lectotypified C. masaikai by citing Esquirol 3230 (A, photo., E, L., photo) as the type; M. Jacob's designation is treated as the first-step; a second-step is needed to narrow the designation to a single specimen (see Vienna Cide Art. 9.15 & Ex. 8). Regarding the epithet spelling: H. Léveillé's publication is a lithographed work of a hand-written manuscript, which is hard to read. On p. 59, H. Léveillé cited the epithet twice: 1) as masakai; 2) it is not legible whether masakai or masaikai. The type specimen labels at A, E, K, and L show masaikai. Earlier works (e.g., Rehder, J. Arnold Arbor. 10: 195. 1929 and M. Jacobs l.c.) accepted masaikai.
