Watson described his new taxon based on a cultivar at¹Cambridge Botanic Garden (Massachusetts, USA), collected¹originally by C. V. Hartman at Sonora (Mexico); no known¹herbarium specimen or garden plant exists. The neotype,¹proposed by Laferriere, is the holotype of A. parviflora¹Torr. 1858
