Koidz. used Rubus palmatus var. coptophyllus O. Kze. Method. p. 95 (= R. palmatus var. coptophyllus (A. Gray) Kuntze, Meth. Spec. Beschreib. Rubus. 95, 1879); the preceding varietal name citation is an error. Kuntze merely listed R. coptophyllus as a binomial and discussed its status, but not publish the varietal name.
