The nothospecific epithet is from the name of the ancient Roman Segine, later a fief of the Acaya, whose name is the modern toponym of the part of Vernole where the hybrid was found; publ. as Ophrys x segineae Gennaio & Medagli nothosp. nov., nothosubsp. segineae to satisfy Art. H.5.2. ICN (2018).
