Remarks

Etymology: The genus name refers to the common name assigned to various members of the Asclepiadoideae, whose fruits are consumed in different parts of Mexico. Talayote, or its variants talayotle, talayotli, tlalayotli, talayutli is of Nahuatl origin and corresponds to tlalli=earth, ayotli=pumpkin. Due to the origin of the word in Nahuatl, the gender is feminine.
